THE 1980's What a decade!!
The 1980's was the start of the whole self-centered what about ME! ME! ME! The Minium wage was 3 dollars and 10 cents. In fashion, nerds were a hot commodity because the movie Revenge of the Nerds was released as a hit movie. In clothing everything was bright and bold even the colors. Neon was in and bell-bottoms were out.
In the 1980 Election between then-presdient Jimmy Carter against Calforina Governor Ronald Reagen. Ronald won the election and came into office with the Iran Hostage Crisis going on for more then a year. A few hours after he was sworn in the American hostages were released. He also came in with a economy that was in danger of having a recession. This caused "Reagenomics" to be born. In Reagenomics you cut government spending and cut taxes for americans because when the top get tax breaks it sparkles down the classes and hits the bottom class. It does this because the rich pay money by businesses and with luxury items then creats jobs. This didn't work right away but started to work in 1984. Most Americans didn't understand this concept and was wondering if this would work.
The cold war was still in effect and many Americans were worried there might be a nuclear holocaust. In March of 1981 the Presdient of the United States was shot by John Hickley. Not only but the entire world was in fear because they didn't know if this was done by the Soviets, or the Iranians, maybe even a crazy person. He was also a very popular presdient and no one wants to see the presdient assinated. Thank Goodness he was fine a month later he was released from the hospital and it was just a crazy person that shot him. 1983 was a tough year for the Soviets and America because it looked more and more likely that a nuclear war was about to start. On
March 23rd 1983 Reagen shocked his fellow countrymen and the world when he annouced that American scientist came up with the ultimate weapon called the SDI which the media called "Star Wars". This involved space stations being in space and stop any missles before they even entered the atmosphere. June 8th 1983 in a speech in Orlando he called the USSR "a evil empire" this scared both countries because they thought either Reagen was going to attack the Soviets or the Soviets were going to attack America. He had courage to say that and most people admire that. Then for many years it was in a standstill until in 1987 when Ronald Reagen said the famous words "Mr Gorbachev open this gate, tear down this wall". Then later in that year Soviet Presdient Gorbachev and US presdient Ronald Reagen signed a agreement to remove all medium and long range nuclear weapons. America, USSR and the World sighed in relief. Maybe this 40 year cold war was almost over. In 1988 Mr. Gorbachev shocked the world when he spoke at the United Nations when he unvielded his vision of the future. He said that the world is facing a nuclear annihilation, enviromentally pollution and terrible poverty in 2/3 of the world. He argued that the USSR could not afford the Cold war any more. Instead, everyone should come together to bring peace to the world's hotspots and pool the resources of the world to end poverty. The world was shocked and then was wondering what now; is this the first step to the end of the cold war? Then the cold war took another step in ending when Reagen's dream came true when the Berlin Wall was torn down on November 9th
1989. Then in Decmeber of 1989 the Communist goverments of Romania, Bulgaria, Lovakia and Czechoslovakia collapsed. It was the end of the cold war.
Terrorism didn't start on September 11th 2001 there as many terrorist attacks before that. The first one of the 80's was the Iran Hostage Crisis. The next attack was in June of 1985 when TWA Jet was hijacked by Islamic extremist group called the PLO. This standoff didn't last longer then a year but just 2 weeks. The PLO did this because they wanted Iseral to release the 700 prisioners they had in their prisions. The PLO let the prisioners go and the next day Iseral let their prisioners go. Then the PLO hijacked a cruise that had 454 people on board. The one unforunte passager who died was a Jewish American who was in a wheelchair that was thrown overboard. It ended when the PLO terrorist surrendered to the Egyptians on the promise they would have safe passage to ally Tunisia. America took action and intercept the plane and forced them to land in Sicily. The United States troops attempted to arrest the terrorist but failed when the Italians wanted to arrest them. They allowed the leader of the terror group to walk free.
There was also tragedy that occured because of human error. On November 4th 1985 in Ukraine there was a explosion. At the time they said it was minor but a few weeks later they admited that it was actually serious. Then in the summer of 1986 they finally told the whole truth. During the night of November 4th right before midnight the employees of a nuclear plant decided to do a experiment where they wanted to see how long the generator would continue to produce power when the steamer was closed down. Doing this broke safety rules and caused a hige surge of heat, which turned the water into steam and caused a explosion that ruptured the fuel tanks. Seconds later, as Hydrogen and Carbon Dixiode released in the 1st explosion came in contact with the air. Then a second explosion, throwing a plum of radioactive dust gas into the atmosphere. Some of the men fled and ran off without reporting the accident. Then in 1989 the Communist China had enough of the protests the people have done and at Tian-An-Men square there was a massacre when student protested and ran them over with a tank.
The 1980's wasn't only a scary or a tragic time there was good times as well. On July 29th 1981 Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married. On August 1st 1981 a brand new cable channel debut where music was on 24 hours a day. It was called MTV. If a band or a singer wanted to be #1 on the charts what they would do is create a music video. MTV didn't charge the band or singer but gave them free air time. Benzir Bhutto became the presdient of Pakistan and doing that she became the first women to be a leader of a moderate muslim state.
The 1980's was a intresting time. The United States went thru the cold war and Reagen's peace thru strength helped America defeat the USSR and ran them out of business. Without Reagen's philosphy we might of lost the war but he knew what he was doing and we won. If only more politicians would be like him.

Should the Supreme Court Judges continue to be appointed and have life-long positions?
I think yes they should continue being appointed by the presdient of the United States and have life-long postions. To those who think that after each presdients term there should be a new court; all I have to say is that will never work. There are many reasons I believe this is and that is because this court will lose its jurisdiction and not be taken serious. The other problem would be that the Supreme Court decides some very imporant issues and if there is a new court they can bring back up the cases again, again and they would never get anything done. I think our founders got it right when they created the Supreme Court and this is what is said of the court in the constitution. "The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority; to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls; to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction; to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party; to Controversies between two or more States; between a State and Citizens of another State; between Citizens of different States; between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects". It is a pretty open to intrepation which our founding fathers did a lot of.
As the quote above says there is nothing to say how many judges there should be on the court. The presdient doesn't decide the number of justices but Congress does. One presdient FDR tried to make a law that for every justice that is above the age of 70 the presdient gets to add a member and could have as many as 6 per presdient. I am glad that this never worked becuase this would of politicized the court and give one presdient a whole lot of power.
These justices work their entire life for this postion so they should be able to keep the job until they either retire, die or get impeached. So there is check and balances if Congress feels one member is not up to the job or did something horrible they can impeach him/her. In closing, lets not fix whats not broken so leave the Supreme Court alone.

JOHN MCCAIN IS A TRUE AMERICAN!!!

John Sidney McCain the third is a great American. I might have problems with him politically and I might end up not voting for him who knows but no one can say that he isn't a great American. There has been some liberal sites saying that he wasn't a great american and he betrayed his country. These statements are simply are not true as the Navy released all his records from his military carrer. He has been awarded 17 medals of honor and didn't throw them to the ground like some people at that time did. Heres a list of the medals that he earned by serving his country...
Silver Star Medal
Legion of Merit w/combat "V" and one gold star
Distingusied Flying Cross
Bronze Star Medal w/combact "V" and two gold stars
Purple Heart w/one gold star
Mertitorous Service Medal
Air Medal w/one bronze star and the Numeral "2"
Navy Commendation Medal w/combact "V" and one gold star
Combact Action Ribbon
Navy Unit Commendation
Meritiorious Unit Commendation
POW medal
National Defense Service Medal
Vietnam Service Medal w/ two bronze stars
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba)
Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba)
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device
Look at all these rewards. He is truly a American Hero! Just look at him in that picture. They had to relaign all his bones because those Vietnamesse didn't set his bones correctly. Here is John McCain's story....
The date was October 26th 1967; he was on his 23rd mission and he flew above the heart of Hanoi. Then he said out of no where a Russian missle came up and the sky was full of them. This hit his plane and ended up blowing up his right wing. Then he started to crash and ended up parachuting to the ocean. When he landed in the ocean he broke both his arms and a leg. Also when he landed in the ocean he suck right to the bottom. Could you image sinking to the bottom of a ocean with both your legs broke and a arm broke. Well he said he didn't relize the pain he was in when he pushed off the bottom so he could reach air again. Just as he did this he sunk to the bottom. The reason he sunk again was he was wearing 50 pounds of gear. He managed to kick off the bottom again and reached the surface of the water. He was in a dazed condition. I went up to the top again and sank back down. This time I couldn't get back to the surface. I was wearing an inflatable life-preserver-type thing that looked like water wings. I reached down with my mouth and got the toggle between my teeth and inflated the preserver and finally floated to the top. The North Vietnamese swam out to him and pulled him to the shore. Once they went to the shore they stripped him. (Which is normal prodcure when they capture a Prision of War). This was in the middle of town so a huge group of people started swarming him and they were spitting, screaming and kicking a young John McCain. When they took his clothes off he started to feel a pain in his right knee. I sat up and looked at it, and my right foot was resting next to my left knee, just in a 90-degree position. I said, "My God--my leg!" That seemed to enrage them —I don't know why. One of them slammed a rifle butt down on my shoulder, and smashed it pretty badly. Another stuck a bayonet in my foot. The mob was really getting up-tight. About the same time a guy started screaming at them to leave him alone. A women came over and proped him up and gave him some tea to drink. This quieted the crowd up pretty quick. They put him on a strecher and put him on the ground of jail with just a towel on him. For the next three to four days he came in and out of conscious. During this time he was interrogated which he calls "quizzed". During those sessions of being quizzed he was informed of all the criminal charges they were accusing him of. He refused to give the interrogators anything but his name, rank, serial number and his birthday. They beat him up pretty good each day and he would not give in. They kept telling John that he will not recieve any medicial attention till he started answering their questions. He couldn't belive this and he believed that if he holded out for a while they would give in. During this time they gave him small bits of food and water. He could keep the water down but kept throwing the food back up. They wanted military information not political information. He wouldn't give in and this frustrated them.
He belives that on the forth day of being in prision two guards came in instead of one. They took the blanket off and one guard showed the other guard his knee. He said it was so swollen it was the size, color and shape of a football. Then he remembered that when he was a flying instructor a collegue had ejected himself from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us—a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me. Then he relized that the same thing was happening to him. Then when he saw his knee like that he told a guard to get the officer. An officer came in a few minutes later. He was the guy they called "The bug" he was the psychotic torturer one of the worst that McCain had to deal with while in Vietnam. He said "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." He left and came back a few minutes later with a doctor who John calls "incompetent". He squatted down and took McCain's pulse. He didn't speak english. After he took his pulse he shook his head and said something to "the bug". John asked are u going to take me to the hospital? He said No its too late. Then John replied if you take me to the hospital I will get better. "Zorba" took my pulse again, and repeated, "It's too late." They got up and left, and I lapsed into unconsciousness. Sometime later, "The Bug" came rushing into the room, shouting, "Your father is a big admiral; now we take you to the hospital."He says he tells this story to make a point. The point is There were hardly any amputees among the prisoners who came back because the North Vietnamese just would not give medical treatment to someone who was badly injured—they weren't going to waste their time. For one thing, in the transition from the kind of life we lead in America to the filth and dirt and infection, it would be very difficult for a guy to live anyway. In fact, my treatment in the hospital almost killed me.
Heres the story of him in a hospital. He said that during the first 3-4 days in the hospital he woke up twice. The room wasn't small it was about 15 by 15; dirty as he** and that everytime it rained a half inch of rain would be on the floor. He almost never saw a doctor or a nurse and wasn't washed at all. When he did see a nurse or doctor they didn't speak english they spoke french. For a body guard he was assigned a 16 year old male right out of the rice fields. His favorite thing to do was read a book to the P.O.W that had a picture in it of a old man with his rifle in his hand and sitting on a fuselage of an F-105 which had been shot down. He then point to himself and laugh. After he was done laughing he would punch McCain. He had to feed John because his arms were still broken. He would come in with a cup that had noodles and some gristle in it, and fill a spoon and put it in my mouth. The gristle was very hard to chew. I'd get my mouth full after three or four spoonfuls, and I'd be chewing away on it. I couldn't take any more in my mouth, so he'd just eat the rest himself. I was getting about three or four spoonfuls of food twice a day. It got so that I kind of didn't give a damn—even though I tried as hard as I could to get enough to eat.
After being at the hospital for many days a "gook" (what we called the North Vietnamesse) came in who knew English very well. He asked me how I was doing? He said we have a frenchmen here visiting in Hanoi and is willing to take a message back to your family. He thought at the time what a great deal to tell them I am alive. At the time he admits being naive and that you get smarter when dealing with these people. He didn't know at the time but the Vietnamesse released McCain's name and started a huge propaganda splash and they were happy to catch "the crown prince".
A few hours after the meeting with the "gook" they took him on a strecher. They were trying

WHY I THINK GAS IS SO EXPENSIVE!!!
There are many reasons why Gas is so expensive. I have a friend who said that he knew somebody who drives truck for a living and is putting 600 dollars in fuel each time he fills up! that is outrageous. I don't agree with Barack Obama who said they are going to tax the crap out of the oil companies because all it will do in the end is come back and take a bite out of consumers back pocket. The problem comes down to that enviromentalist don't want us to built any new refiners and none have been built in the last 32 years. I don't know if they know about this yet but in Arizona they are building a new refinery. They might get mad but hopefully they won't get their way and try to shut down the first refinery that is being built in decades. It is under construction and will be in Arizona but won't start creating oil till 2011. It will add about 150,000 barrels of oil a day to our market. That will help us however, As I learned in high School its all about supply/demand. That oil will not last forever so we will have to drill for more oil right here in America that we could use that would help us get off foriegn oil ; Its a short term solution but we will have to find alternative resources to oil. We have oil in Alaska in AWAR where I have been told that most people are open to the idea to drill there. They don't have much of a economy but they do have alot of oil. This will not happen however, for the next 4 years because all of the presdiental candiates are against drilling there. Heres some reasons to support drilling in AWAR. Only 8% of AWAR would be open to drilling which is about 1.5 million acres. This would bring huge revenues to the state and Federal Treasury. Experts say it could bring between 152 and 237 billion dollars. It will create about a quarter million jobs (250,000) I would love to drill there. Who knows if and when we dig there we could find even more oil. I am sick and tired of bowing down at the alter of evil people like Hugo Chavez and the crazy Irani leader. We don't get most of our oil from Chavez but some of the oil. The number 1 country we get oil from is Canada and Mexico. Here is the full list
This is in thousands of barrels of oil (month)
Canada 1,776
Mexico 1,658
Saudi Arabia 1,256
Nigeria 1,163
Venezula 1,009
Angola 641
Iraq 572
Columbia 281
Kuwait 273
Bush said it best in his State of the Union adress in 2006; he said that America was addicted to oil. Here is the actual quote "Keeping America competitive requires affordable energy. Here we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world".
What we need as a world and a country is find out new alternative ways to end the need for oil. There are many ways to do this; we can use wood to give us energy but won't do much for us driving cars but we could make battery-driven cars. Could you image the money that could be made if someone could figure a new way to power a car. Like grass; wood, or wind power. It could be done and hopefully we will do this before its too late.

HELP SAVE DARFUR!!
We all heard the horrible stories of World War 2 with Hitler in Germany. He killed millions of jews and anybody else who he thought was not pure. We as the United States of America one of the greatest countries in the world stopped Hitler before he could have world domination. As a world community we should not accept genocide as a way of life. The world never thought that genocide would happen again but Saddam proved us wrong when in the late 80's he gased the kurds; in the end he got what was coming to him as he was hanged for all his evil atrocides against humans. Well guess what after Saddam there is more genocide that is happening in the world. The media has not talked about it very much. It is all over world newspapers but not in America. So I question how many americans know about the War and Genocide that is happening in Darfur.
The War in Darfur is a military conflict in the Darfur region of Western Sudan. Unlike the second Sudanesse Civil war the current lines of conflict are seen to be ethnic and tribal, rather than religious. One side of the armed conflict is the Sudanesse army and the Janjaweed, a milita group recruited mostly by the Arab Baggara tribes of the northern Rizeigat. On the other side of the conflict is the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement. There is recruited primarily from the land-tilling non-Arab Fur, Zaghawa and the Massaleit ethic groups. The goverment of Sudan while they publicly denying that it supports the Janjaweed, has provided money and assistance to the militia and has participated in joint attacks targeting the tribes from which the rebels draw support. This war started in Febuary of 2003. The causes of this war is drought, desertification, and overpopulation. There are many different casualty counts but the United Nations says that it has left 400,000 people dead from disease and the war. The Sudanese government has suppressed information by jailing and killing witnesses since 2004 and tampered with evidence such as mass graves to eliminate their forensic values. We also can't get a good count because any media that tries to get in there is arrested. After the fighting just continued to get worst the United Nations tried to do something. What they did was the Security Council approved a resolution which called for 17,000 more ground troops. Obviously this is not working because the genocide is going on.
We can do something but its not guartneed to work but at least we can try. The international community must provide UNAMID peacekeepers with helicopters and other necessary equipment. We must pressure both the government of Sudan and the fractious rebel groups to get to the peace table. And until they reach a peace agreement, the nations of the world must impose strict travel sanctions and enforce arms embargos on both the government and rebel groups. From Barack Obama's own website he said this about the Darfur conflict "Barack Obama has been a leading voice urging the Bush Administration to take stronger steps to end the genocide in Sudan. He worked with Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) to pass the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act. Obama has traveled to the United Nations to meet with Sudanese officials and visited refugee camps on the Chad-Sudan border to raise international awareness of the ongoing humanitarian disaster there. He also worked with Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) to secure $20 million for the African Union peacekeeping mission. Obama believes the United States needs to lead the world in ending this genocide, including by imposing much tougher sanctions that target Sudan?s oil revenue, implementing and helping to enforce a no-fly zone, and engaging in more intense, effective diplomacy to develop a political roadmap to peace. The international community must, over the Sudanese regime?s protests, deploy a large, capable UN-led and UN-funded force with a robust enforcement mandate to stop the killings".
The War in Darfur is a military conflict in the Darfur region of Western Sudan. Hillary Clinton and John McCain didn't have anything about Darfur.
In closing, When you think about how bad our economy is (I agree that economy is bad right now) and that our dollar is falling in value. Keep this in mind. 1 US Dollar equals 205 dollars in Sudan. For my Candian friends, 1 Candian dollar equals 203 CA dollars. Yes, we are in serious trouble with the economy however, we are alot luckier then most countries. Just keep that in mind. God Bless
