The next problem that I have with the senator from Arizona is he wanted to bring back the fairness Doctorine. It was created in 1949 and then in 1984 the Superme Court ruled that the scarcity rationale underlying the doctrine did not apply to expanding communications. It was then scraped by the great Ronald Reagen in 1987. After that happened Rush Limbagh came to the scene in 1989. With this doctorine you have to have a equal-time rule that TV and Radio must broadcast stations must provide an equivalent opportunity to any opposing political candiates. Liberals want to bring it back because they can not compete with talk radio. They have tried and failed with Air America. This is a dangerous idea because it is cutting off the 1st amendment to the constition and if radio stations have to have liberals and conservatives on. This might sound like a good idea but it truly is not a idea. Radio stations have advertisments to sponsor their programs and if nobody listens then the advertisments will drop. This will cause the end of talk radio. Yes i will admit that talk radio leans Republican HOWEVER, liberals have all the news channel minus Foxnews. Will they let conservatives on CNN or MSNBC I don't think so.
The next problem I have with McCain is he worked with Russ Feingold to pass Campaign finance reform. This is a McCain tried to limit the role of money in politics with measures that, critics say, stomp on the constitutional right to free speech. This is the reason that Newt Gingrich decided not to run for presdient. If he would of ran for presdient him and his people of Solutions for America could of went to jail.
Tax Cuts McCain twice voted against President Bush's tax cuts, saying in 2001 they helped the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and in 2003 that there should be no tax relief until the cost of the Iraq war was known. But he now wants to extend the tax cuts. I am sorry again I do not believe him.
He believes in Al Gore's hysteria. Yeah thats right he believes in Global Warming. McCain and Liberman have a bill that is advocating that the United States have mandatory limit or "cap" on greenhouse gas emissions. The McCain-Lieberman bill would require certain industrial sectors to collectively reduce emissions through a system of buying and selling pollution credits, known as a "cap and trade" approach that worked successfully to reduce acid rain. Experts believe this will rise gas prices by 50 cents. It also doesn't call for any other country to limit their greehouse gases. Yes we do have the highest pollution rate but China is closely coming in 2nd. I do agree that it would be good to cut down on emissions but not alone. I wish liberals and people who believe in Global Warming the world goes thru cycles. Heres the top 5 countries.
Country Annual CO2 emissionsin (thousands of metric tons) Percent of world
United States 6,049,435 22.2%
China 5,010,170 18.4%
European Union 3,115,125 11.4%
Russia 1,524,993 5.6%
India 1,342,962 4.9%
The Republican nominee also doesn't want to drill for oil in Alaska. We need to drill for our own oil so we don't have to depend on crazy dictators or terrorists for our oil. Here is a direct quote from the Senator "As far as ANWR is concerned, I don’t want to drill in the Grand Canyon, and I don’t want to drill in the Everglades. This is one of the most pristine and beautiful parts of the world. Yes i do have to agree with him that its beautiful but according to the Governor of Alaska says it won't damage it. The reason it won't completely destroy they would use only 2,000 acres of the 20 million acres. It would give Americans 1.6 million barrels of oil per day and create jobs.
The next issue I have with the war hero is that he opposes getting rid of the Death Tax. After paying years and years of paying taxes why should you pay Uncle Sam again? I think this is wrong.
He has been good with the war effort but he opposes Guantanamo Bay. I have to scratch my head and wonder why? We don't want these sorry excuse for human beings in our country so where else can we put them? He says he wants to close Guantanamo but doesn't have a solution on where these people would go?
Now i got all my problems with John McCain out there; now its time to talk about the good things he has done. Conservatives are going to disagree with me on the first two issues I am going to throw out there. First he opposes a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I have to agree with him because I think it should be up to the states to decide not the federal goverment. In 2004 he broke away from Republicans and said it was anti-Republican to want a constitutional amendment. He then said this "The constitutional amendment we're debating today strikes me as antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans," McCain said. "It usurps from the states a fundamental authority they have always possessed and imposes a federal remedy for a problem that most states do not believe confronts them." The next issue I agree with him that will get people mad is that he works with the other side? I think that is a good thing because in our democracy you can not get things done if you don't compromise. However, its a two way street if he works with Democrats on lets say Global Warming then the Democrats should have to work with him on lets say the War on Terror. But this doesn't happen. Also, if he wins the presdiency I think that conservatives should be able to have John's ear like Democrats have his ear. The last issue that I agree with him is the War on Terror. He's been such a big supporter for the troops and their mission. He knows what it is like to be on the front lines and is a true American.
In closing, I would vote for him if I had only a few problems with John McCain. As you can see I have many problems with him. He would be much better for America then Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton but many conservatives and myself will have major problems voting for him. He cannot and will not win the presdiency because of this. I myself going to do something I never thought I would do. That is NOT VOTE.
